Friends of the San Pedro River
The Friends of the San Pedro River is a nonprofit volunteer group that assists the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in maintaining, upgrading, and interpreting to the public the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area (SPRNCA). The Friends have funded many programs and activities within the conservation area and have donated more than 100,000 hours of volunteer time. Volunteers staff the visitor centers at the San Pedro House and at Fairbank and provide visitors with information about events, interesting trails, interesting wildlife recently cited, etc. The Friends have organized groups of volunteers that helped with building trails and maintaining them and regularly organize docent led walks within the conservation area.
One of the major projects done by the Friends was the renovation of the San Pedro House in 1988. Volunteers spent more than 1000 hours renovating this former ranch house. Click the button below to see photos and information about the renovation project.
